Bansko, located in Southwestern Bulgaria is not the first place on the lips of snow seeking travellers but those who visit discover one of Europe’s best kept secrets.

The SKI Area

Bansko sits at an altitude of 925 m above sea level but the main ski area has pistes from 2000 - 2600 m with a blue run that goes all the way back to town with snow making facilities and floodlighting.

The quiet resort is perfect for intermediate skiers with lots of fun blues and challenging reds. Those looking for some extra adrenaline can find steep terrain on the black slopes although they are not in abundance.

The new fast lift system whisks its skiers and snowboarders up the hill super efficiently meaning smaller queues and loads more runs for your money!

When To Go To Bansko?

To make the most of the great conditions that Bansko has to offer, Off Peak Week recommends avoiding major school holidays, especially half term as the resort can be very busy. March is a great time to visit as there is usually lots of sun and there snow base is plentiful.

Must Do Runs at Bansko

The floodlit piste that runs all the way to the valley basin is an awesome, unique experience and is open right up until 9.30 at night! At 7.5km long it will require some endurance, especially after a full day on the slopes.

At the end of January the world’s best skiers descend on the Bulgarian slopes for the Audi FIS Downhill World Cup. With plenty of parties, concerts and of course blistering speeds reached by the professional athletes, it is a great time to visit Bansko.
